Cars equipped with xenon headlights have long been common on the road. Whether it comes from the standard of high-end cars or the embellishment of modified cars, xenon lamps are gradually becoming a fashion symbol. It is necessary for us to understand what wonderful features it has.

Xenon lamps, also known as high-pressure gas discharge lamps (HID), are called "the lighting revolution of the 21st century".

The xenon lamp uses the principle of inert gas light emission. The arc tube made of quartz glass is filled with high-pressure xenon, mercury and metal halide at about 6 atmospheres. Under ultra-high pressure (the 12-volt power is instantaneously increased to 23000 volts by the ballast) An arc is formed, and the xenon gas is activated into a plasma state. The metal atoms in the activated halides emit high brightness light with a color temperature close to that of sunlight.

Compared with traditional halogen lamps, HID has the following advantages

1. High brightness output. The brightness of HID with the same wattage is about 2-3 times that of halogen lamps, and the range is longer and wider, which improves the safety of driving at night.

2. High brightness comfort. HID can produce about 4000-6000K color temperature light, effectively reducing night lighting visual fatigue.

3. Long life. The principle of HID determines that it does not have the common problem of tungsten wire burnout and fracture of halogen lamps, and the service life can reach 2000-3000 hours, which is almost equivalent to the life of a car.

4. Low energy consumption. The power of traditional halogen headlights reaches 65 watts, while HID only needs 35 watts, which is nearly doubled, which can significantly reduce the burden on the vehicle's electrical system.

At present, the demand for HID in Europe is growing at a rate of 13% per year. The survey report shows that by 2008, the proportion of new cars equipped with HID in the European, American and Japanese markets will exceed 40%.
